apamṛtyu pariharisò aniladeva

Ward off untimely death, O Lord of Wind!

Verse 2 — ಕೃಪಣ ವತ್ಸಲನೆ ಕಾಯ್ವರ ಕಾಣೆ ಜಗದೊಳಗೆ

ಕೃಪಣ ವತ್ಸಲನೆ ಕಾಯ್ವರ ಕಾಣೆ ಜಗದೊಳಗೆ

kṛpaṇa vatsalanè kāyvara kāṇè jagadòl̤agè

O compassionate refuge of the humble — I see none in this world who can protect me.

Verse 3 — ನಿನಗಿನ್ನು ಸಮರಾದ ಅನಿಮಿತ್ತ ಬಾಂಧವರು

ನಿನಗಿನ್ನು ಸಮರಾದ ಅನಿಮಿತ್ತ ಬಾಂಧವರು

ninaginnu samarāda animitta bāṃdhavaru

Now, O Lord, do I have kinsmen equal to You, come unbidden —

Verse 4 — ಎನಗಿಲ್ಲ ಆವಾವ ಜನುಮದಲ್ಲಿ

I have none in any birth,

Verse 5 — ಅನುದಿನವು ಎಮ್ಮನುದಾಸೀನ ಮಾಡುವುದು

yet You take me into Your service day after day;

anucitavu jagadi sajjana śikhāmaṇiyè

is this not beyond deserving, O crest-jewel of the righteous!

The presiding deities of the senses are Your servants; the Lord of the three worlds

parisaranè ī bhāgya dòrètanakè sariyuṃṭè

O Lord of all, is there any equal to this fortune I have gained?

Verse 10 — ಗುರುವರನೆ ನೀ ದಯಾಕರನೆಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುವೆ

guruvaranè nī dayākaranèṃdu prārthisuvè

O best of gurus, I pray that You, the compassionate one,

Verse 11 — ಭವರೋಗ ಮೋಚಕನೆ ಪವಮಾನರಾಯ

bhavaroga mocakanè pavamānarāya

releaser from the disease of worldly existence, O king of the purifying winds,

Verse 12 — ನಿನ್ನವರವನು ನಾನು ಮಾಧವ ಪ್ರಿಯನೆ

ninnavaravanu nānu mādhava priyanè

I am wholly Yours, O beloved of Mādhavā;

Verse 13 — ಜವನ ಬಾಧೆಯ ಬಿಡಿಸು ಅವನಿಯೊಳು ಸುಜನರಿಗೆ

javana bādhèya biḍisu avaniyòl̤u sujanarigè

release the good people of this earth from the torments of Death;

Verse 14 — ದಿವಿಜಗಣ ಮಧ್ಯದಲಿ ಪ್ರವರ ನೀನಹುದಯ್ಯ

ದಿವಿಜಗಣ ಮಧ್ಯದಲಿ ಪ್ರವರ ನೀನಹುದಯ್ಯ

divijagaṇa madhyadali pravara nīnahudayya

among the hosts of gods You are the foremost.

Verse 15 — ಜ್ಞಾನಾಯು ರೂಪಕನು ನೀನಹುದೊ ವಾಣಿ ಪಂಚಾನನಾದ್ಯಮರರಿಗೆ

jñānāyu rūpakanu nīnahudò vāṇi paṃcānanādyamararigè

You are the embodiment of wisdom and life — to Sarasvati, Pañcānana and the other gods,

dīnavatsalanèṃdu nāninna mòrèhòkkè

knowing You as the lover of the lowly, I have entered Your refuge;

dānavāraṇya kṛśānu sarvadā èmma

ever burn away the forest of my evil demons, O fire!

This body, a means to salvation, was given by Your grace;
