Verse 2 — ஓம் ஶுக்லாம்பரதரம் விஷ்ணும் ஶஶிவர்ணம்… ஓம் ஶுக்லாம்பரதரம் விஷ்ணும் ஶஶிவர்ணம் சதுர்புஜம் ।
ōṃ śuklāmbaradharaṃ viṣṇuṃ śaśivarṇaṃ chaturbhujam ।
Om! (I meditate upon) the one clad in white garments, the all-pervading Vishnu, who is moon-complexioned and has four arms...
Verse 3 — ப்ரஸன்னவதனம் த்யாயேத் ஸர்வவிக்னோபஶாந்தயே ॥ ப்ரஸன்னவதனம் த்யாயேத் ஸர்வவிக்னோபஶாந்தயே ॥
prasannavadanaṃ dhyāyēt sarvavighnōpaśāntayē ॥
One should meditate upon Him with a serene, pleasant countenance for the complete pacification of all obstacles.
Verse 5 — யஸ்யத்விரதவக்த்ராத்யா: பாரிஷத்யா: பர: ஶதம் । யஸ்யத்விரதவக்த்ராத்யா: பாரிஷத்யா: பர: ஶதம் ।
yasyadviradavaktrādyāḥ pāriṣadyāḥ paraḥ śatam ।
He whose attendants, beginning with the elephant-faced one (Ganesha), number more than a hundred...
Verse 6 — விக்னம் நிக்னந்தி ஸததம் விஷ்வக்ஸேனம் தமாஶ்ரயே ॥ விக்னம் நிக்னந்தி ஸததம் விஷ்வக்ஸேனம் தமாஶ்ரயே ॥
vighnaṃ nighnanti satataṃ viṣvaksēnaṃ tamāśrayē ॥

Verse 9 — வ்யாஸம் வஸிஷ்ட நப்தாரம் ஶக்தே: பௌத்ரமகல்மஷம் । வ்யாஸம் வஸிஷ்ட நப்தாரம் ஶக்தே: பௌத்ரமகல்மஷம் ।
vyāsaṃ vasiṣṭha naptāraṃ śaktēḥ pautramakalmaṣam ।
(I salute) Vyasa, great-grandson of Vasishtha, grandson of Shakti, who is pure and sinless...
Verse 10 — பராஶராத்மஜம் வந்தே ஶுகதாதம் தபோனிதிம் ॥ பராஶராத்மஜம் வந்தே ஶுகதாதம் தபோனிதிம் ॥
parāśarātmajaṃ vandē śukatātaṃ tapōnidhim ॥
...I bow to the son of Parashara, the father of Shuka, who is a treasure-house of austerity.
Verse 12 — வ்யாஸாய விஷ்ணு ரூபாய வ்யாஸரூபாய விஷ்ணவே । வ்யாஸாய விஷ்ணு ரூபாய வ்யாஸரூபாய விஷ்ணவே ।
vyāsāya viṣṇu rūpāya vyāsarūpāya viṣṇavē ।
To Vyasa who is a form of Vishnu, and to Vishnu who has taken the form of Vyasa...
Verse 13 — நமோ வை ப்ரஹ்மனிதயே வாஸிஷ்டாய நமோ நம: ॥ நமோ வை ப்ரஹ்மனிதயே வாஸிஷ்டாய நமோ நம: ॥
namō vai brahmanidhayē vāsiṣṭhāya namō namaḥ ॥
...salutations to the treasure-house of Vedic knowledge (Brahman), to the descendant of Vasishtha, salutations again and again!
Verse 15 — அவிகாராய ஶுத்தாய நித்யாய பரமாத்மனே । அவிகாராய ஶுத்தாய நித்யாய பரமாத்மனே ।
avikārāya śuddhāya nityāya paramātmanē ।
To the unchanging One, the pure One, the eternal One, the Supreme Self...
Verse 16 — ஸதைக ரூப ரூபாய விஷ்ணவே ஸர்வஜிஷ்ணவே ॥ ஸதைக ரூப ரூபாய விஷ்ணவே ஸர்வஜிஷ்ணவே ॥
sadaika rūpa rūpāya viṣṇavē sarvajiṣṇavē ॥
...to the One of eternally uniform form, to Vishnu, the all-conquering One!
Verse 18 — யஸ்ய ஸ்மரணமாத்ரேண ஜன்மஸம்ஸாரபந்தனாத் । யஸ்ய ஸ்மரணமாத்ரேண ஜன்மஸம்ஸாரபந்தனாத் ।
yasya smaraṇamātrēṇa janmasaṃsārabandhanāt ।
By merely remembering whom, from the bondage of birth and worldly existence...
Verse 19 — விமுச்யதே நமஸ்தஸ்மை விஷ்ணவே ப்ரபவிஷ்ணவே ॥ விமுச்யதே நமஸ்தஸ்மை விஷ்ணவே ப்ரபவிஷ்ணவே ॥
vimuchyatē namastasmai viṣṇavē prabhaviṣṇavē ॥
...one is liberated - salutations to that Vishnu, the Lord of all beings!
Verse 21 — ஓம் நமோ விஷ்ணவே ப்ரபவிஷ்ணவே । ஓம் நமோ விஷ்ணவே ப்ரபவிஷ்ணவே ।
ōṃ namō viṣṇavē prabhaviṣṇavē ।
Om! Salutations to Vishnu, the origin and lord of all beings!
Verse 22 — ஶ்ரீ வைஶம்பாயன உவாச ஶ்ரீ வைஶம்பாயன உவாச

Sri Vaishampayana said:
Verse 23 — ஶ்ருத்வா தர்மா நஶேஷேண பாவனானி ச ஸர்வஶ: । ஶ்ருத்வா தர்மா நஶேஷேண பாவனானி ச ஸர்வஶ: ।
śrutvā dharmā naśēṣēṇa pāvanāni cha sarvaśaḥ ।
Having heard all the dharmas completely, and all the purifying practices...
Verse 24 — யுதிஷ்டிர: ஶாந்தனவம் புனரேவாப்ய பாஷத ॥ யுதிஷ்டிர: ஶாந்தனவம் புனரேவாப்ய பாஷத ॥
yudhiṣṭhiraḥ śāntanavaṃ punarēvābhya bhāṣata ॥

kimēkaṃ daivataṃ lōkē kiṃ vā'pyēkaṃ parāyaṇaṃ
Who is the One Supreme Deity in the world? Who is the One ultimate refuge?
Verse 28 — ஸ்துவந்த: கம் கமர்சந்த: ப்ராப்னுயுர்மானவா:… ஸ்துவந்த: கம் கமர்சந்த: ப்ராப்னுயுர்மானவா: ஶுபம் ॥
stuvantaḥ kaṃ kamarchantaḥ prāpnuyurmānavāḥ śubham ॥
By praising whom, by worshipping whom, can human beings attain auspiciousness (good fortune)?
Verse 30 — கோ தர்ம: ஸர்வதர்மாணாம் பவத: பரமோ மத: । கோ தர்ம: ஸர்வதர்மாணாம் பவத: பரமோ மத: ।
kō dharmaḥ sarvadharmāṇāṃ bhavataḥ paramō mataḥ ।
Which dharma (righteous practice) is, in your opinion, the supreme among all dharmas?
Verse 31 — கிம் ஜபன்முச்யதே ஜந்துர்ஜன்மஸம்ஸார பந்தனாத் ॥ கிம் ஜபன்முச்யதே ஜந்துர்ஜன்மஸம்ஸார பந்தனாத் ॥
kiṃ japanmuchyatē janturjanmasaṃsāra bandhanāt ॥
By chanting what (mantra/name) can a living being be freed from the bondage of birth and worldly existence?

Verse 35 — ஸ்துவன்னாம ஸஹஸ்ரேண புருஷ: ஸததோத்தித: ॥ ஸ்துவன்னாம ஸஹஸ்ரேண புருஷ: ஸததோத்தித: ॥
stuvannāma sahasrēṇa puruṣaḥ satatōtthitaḥ ॥
By praising with the thousand names, a person who is constantly uplifted (in devotion)...
Verse 37 — தமேவ சார்சயன்னித்யம் பக்த்யா புருஷமவ்யயம் । தமேவ சார்சயன்னித்யம் பக்த்யா புருஷமவ்யயம் ।
tamēva chārchayannityaṃ bhaktyā puruṣamavyayam ।
Worshipping Him alone daily with devotion, the Imperishable Being...
Verse 38 — த்யாயன் ஸ்துவன்னமஸ்யம்ஶ்ச யஜமானஸ்தமேவ ச ॥ த்யாயன் ஸ்துவன்னமஸ்யம்ஶ்ச யஜமானஸ்தமேவ ச ॥
dhyāyan stuvannamasyaṃścha yajamānastamēva cha ॥
Meditating, praising, bowing, and worshipping Him alone...
Verse 40 — அனாதி நிதனம் விஷ்ணும் ஸர்வலோக மஹேஶ்வரம் । அனாதி நிதனம் விஷ்ணும் ஸர்வலோக மஹேஶ்வரம் ।
anādi nidhanaṃ viṣṇuṃ sarvalōka mahēśvaram ।
Vishnu who is without beginning or end, the great Lord of all worlds...
Verse 41 — லோகாத்யக்ஷம் ஸ்துவன்னித்யம் ஸர்வ து:காதிகோ… லோகாத்யக்ஷம் ஸ்துவன்னித்யம் ஸர்வ து:காதிகோ பவேத் ॥
lōkādhyakṣaṃ stuvannityaṃ sarva duḥkhātigō bhavēt ॥
By always praising the Lord of worlds, one transcends all sorrows.
Verse 43 — ப்ரஹ்மண்யம் ஸர்வ தர்மஜ்ஞம் லோகானாம் கீர்தி… ப்ரஹ்மண்யம் ஸர்வ தர்மஜ்ஞம் லோகானாம் கீர்தி வர்தனம் ।
brahmaṇyaṃ sarva dharmajñaṃ lōkānāṃ kīrti vardhanam ।
The supporter of Brahmins, knower of all dharma, enhancer of the glory of all beings...
Verse 44 — லோகனாதம் மஹத்பூதம் ஸர்வபூத பவோத்பவம் ॥ லோகனாதம் மஹத்பூதம் ஸர்வபூத பவோத்பவம் ॥
lōkanāthaṃ mahadbhūtaṃ sarvabhūta bhavōdbhavam ॥
The Lord of worlds, the Great Being, the source and origin of all creatures.
Verse 46 — ஏஷ மே ஸர்வ தர்மாணாம் தர்மோதிக தமோமத: । ஏஷ மே ஸர்வ தர்மாணாம் தர்மோதிக தமோமத: ।
ēṣa mē sarva dharmāṇāṃ dharmō'dhika tamōmataḥ ।
This, in my opinion, is the highest dharma of all dharmas...
Verse 47 — யத்பக்த்யா புண்டரீகாக்ஷம் ஸ்தவைரர்சேன்னர: ஸதா ॥ யத்பக்த்யா புண்டரீகாக்ஷம் ஸ்தவைரர்சேன்னர: ஸதா ॥
yadbhaktyā puṇḍarīkākṣaṃ stavairarchēnnaraḥ sadā ॥
That a person who always worships the lotus-eyed One (Pundarikaksha) with devotion and hymns...
Verse 49 — பரமம் யோ மஹத்தேஜ: பரமம் யோ மஹத்தப: । பரமம் யோ மஹத்தேஜ: பரமம் யோ மஹத்தப: ।
paramaṃ yō mahattējaḥ paramaṃ yō mahattapaḥ ।
He who is the supreme radiance, the supreme austerity...
Verse 50 — பரமம் யோ மஹத்ப்ரஹ்ம பரமம் ய: பராயணம் । பரமம் யோ மஹத்ப்ரஹ்ம பரமம் ய: பராயணம் ।
paramaṃ yō mahadbrahma paramaṃ yaḥ parāyaṇam ।
He who is the Supreme Brahman, the ultimate refuge...
Verse 52 — பவித்ராணாம் பவித்ரம் யோ மங்களானாம் ச மங்களம் । பவித்ராணாம் பவித்ரம் யோ மங்களானாம் ச மங்களம் ।
pavitrāṇāṃ pavitraṃ yō maṅgaḻānāṃ cha maṅgaḻam ।
He who is the purest of the pure, the most auspicious of all auspicious things...
Verse 53 — தைவதம் தேவதானாம் ச பூதானாம் யோவ்யய: பிதா ॥ தைவதம் தேவதானாம் ச பூதானாம் யோவ்யய: பிதா ॥
daivataṃ dēvatānāṃ cha bhūtānāṃ yō'vyayaḥ pitā ॥
The God of gods, the imperishable Father of all beings.
Verse 55 — யத: ஸர்வாணி பூதானி பவந்த்யாதி யுகாகமே । யத: ஸர்வாணி பூதானி பவந்த்யாதி யுகாகமே ।
yataḥ sarvāṇi bhūtāni bhavantyādi yugāgamē ।
From whom all beings arise at the beginning of the cosmic cycle...
Verse 56 — யஸ்மிம்ஶ்ச ப்ரலயம் யாந்தி புனரேவ யுகக்ஷயே ॥ யஸ்மிம்ஶ்ச ப்ரலயம் யாந்தி புனரேவ யுகக்ஷயே ॥
yasmiṃścha pralayaṃ yānti punarēva yugakṣayē ॥
And into whom they dissolve again at the end of each cosmic age.
Verse 58 — தஸ்ய லோக ப்ரதானஸ்ய ஜகன்னாதஸ்ய பூபதே । தஸ்ய லோக ப்ரதானஸ்ய ஜகன்னாதஸ்ய பூபதே ।
tasya lōka pradhānasya jagannāthasya bhūpatē ।
Of that primordial Lord of the worlds, of Jagannatha, O King...
Verse 59 — விஷ்ணோர்னாம ஸஹஸ்ரம் மே ஶ்ருணு பாப பயாபஹம் ॥ விஷ்ணோர்னாம ஸஹஸ்ரம் மே ஶ்ருணு பாப பயாபஹம் ॥
viṣṇōrnāma sahasraṃ mē śruṇu pāpa bhayāpaham ॥
Hear from me the thousand names of Vishnu, which destroy sin and fear.
Verse 61 — யானி நாமானி கௌணானி விக்யாதானி மஹாத்மன: । யானி நாமானி கௌணானி விக்யாதானி மஹாத்மன: ।
yāni nāmāni gauṇāni vikhyātāni mahātmanaḥ ।
Those famous names of the Great Soul that are based on His attributes...
Verse 62 — ருஷிபி: பரிகீதானி தானி வக்ஷ்யாமி பூதயே ॥ ருஷிபி: பரிகீதானி தானி வக்ஷ்யாமி பூதயே ॥
ṛṣibhiḥ parigītāni tāni vakṣyāmi bhūtayē ॥
Which have been sung by the sages - these I shall recite for your welfare.
Verse 64 — ருஷிர்னாம்னாம் ஸஹஸ்ரஸ்ய வேதவ்யாஸோ மஹாமுனி: ॥ ருஷிர்னாம்னாம் ஸஹஸ்ரஸ்ய வேதவ்யாஸோ மஹாமுனி: ॥
ṛṣirnāmnāṃ sahasrasya vēdavyāsō mahāmuniḥ ॥
The Rishi of the thousand names is the great sage Veda Vyasa.
Verse 65 — சந்தோனுஷ்டுப் ததா தேவோ பகவான் தேவகீஸுத: ॥ சந்தோனுஷ்டுப் ததா தேவோ பகவான் தேவகீஸுத: ॥
Chandō'nuṣṭup tathā dēvō bhagavān dēvakīsutaḥ ॥
The meter (chandas) is Anushtup; the deity is the Lord, the son of Devaki (Krishna).
Verse 67 — அம்ருதாம் ஶூத்பவோ பீஜம் ஶக்திர்தேவகினந்தன: । அம்ருதாம் ஶூத்பவோ பீஜம் ஶக்திர்தேவகினந்தன: ।
amṛtāṃ śūdbhavō bījaṃ śaktirdēvakinandanaḥ ।
The bija (seed mantra) is 'Amritam Shudbhava'; the shakti (power) is Devaki-nandana (Krishna).
Verse 68 — த்ரிஸாமா ஹ்ருதயம் தஸ்ய ஶாந்த்யர்தே வினியுஜ்யதே ॥ த்ரிஸாமா ஹ்ருதயம் தஸ்ய ஶாந்த்யர்தே வினியுஜ்யதே ॥
trisāmā hṛdayaṃ tasya śāntyarthē viniyujyatē ॥
Trisama is the heart (hridayam) of this stotra; it is recited for peace and auspiciousness.
Verse 70 — விஷ்ணும் ஜிஷ்ணும் மஹாவிஷ்ணும் ப்ரபவிஷ்ணும்… விஷ்ணும் ஜிஷ்ணும் மஹாவிஷ்ணும் ப்ரபவிஷ்ணும் மஹேஶ்வரம் ॥
viṣṇuṃ jiṣṇuṃ mahāviṣṇuṃ prabhaviṣṇuṃ mahēśvaram ॥
Vishnu, the Victorious, the Great Vishnu, the Powerful, the Great Lord...
Verse 71 — அனேகரூப தைத்யாந்தம் நமாமி புருஷோத்தமம் ॥ அனேகரூப தைத்யாந்தம் நமாமி புருஷோத்தமம் ॥
anēkarūpa daityāntaṃ namāmi puruṣōttamam ॥
I bow to the Supreme Being (Purushottama), who has many forms and who destroys demons.

Verse 74 — அஸ்ய ஶ்ரீ விஷ்ணோர்திவ்ய ஸஹஸ்ரனாம ஸ்தோத்ர… அஸ்ய ஶ்ரீ விஷ்ணோர்திவ்ய ஸஹஸ்ரனாம ஸ்தோத்ர மஹாமந்த்ரஸ்ய ॥
asya śrī viṣṇōrdivya sahasranāma stōtra mahāmantrasya ॥
Of this divine thousand-name hymn of Sri Vishnu, the great mantra - This opening declares the subject of the nyasa, establishing it as a mahāmantra (great mantra) of supreme spiritual potency.
Verse 75 — ஶ்ரீ வேதவ்யாஸோ பகவான் ருஷி: । ஶ்ரீ வேதவ்யாஸோ பகவான் ருஷி: ।
śrī vēdavyāsō bhagavān ṛṣiḥ ।
The Rishi (seer) is the divine Bhagavan Vedavyasa - The sage who revealed this mantra. Vedavyasa, compiler of the Vedas and Mahabharata, is honored as the seer through whom this sacred knowledge manifested.
Verse 76 — அனுஷ்டுப் சந்த: । அனுஷ்டுப் சந்த: ।
anuṣṭup Chandaḥ ।
The meter (chandas) is Anushtup - A Vedic meter of 32 syllables arranged in four padas of 8 syllables each. This is the most common meter for shlokas and stotras.
Verse 77 — ஶ்ரீமஹாவிஷ்ணு: பரமாத்மா ஶ்ரீமன்னாராயணோ தேவதா । ஶ்ரீமஹாவிஷ்ணு: பரமாத்மா ஶ்ரீமன்னாராயணோ தேவதா ।
śrīmahāviṣṇuḥ paramātmā śrīmannārāyaṇō dēvatā ।
The presiding deity (devata) is Sri Mahavishnu, the Supreme Self, Sri Narayana - The mantra's power flows from and leads to this supreme deity, identified here with three names emphasizing his glory (Sri), greatness (Maha), all-pervasiveness (Vishnu), and role as the ultimate refuge (Narayana).
Verse 78 — அம்ருதாம்ஶூத்பவோ பானுரிதி பீஜம் । அம்ருதாம்ஶூத்பவோ பானுரிதி பீஜம் ।
amṛtāṃśūdbhavō bhānuriti bījam ।
The seed mantra (bija) is 'Amritamshudbhavo Bhanu' (He who is born from immortal rays, the radiant one) - The bija is the concentrated essence of the mantra's power, invoking Vishnu as the source of immortal light.
Verse 79 — தேவகீனந்தன: ஸ்ரஷ்டேதி ஶக்தி: । தேவகீனந்தன: ஸ்ரஷ்டேதி ஶக்தி: ।
dēvakīnandanaḥ sraṣṭēti śaktiḥ ।
The shakti (power) is 'Devaki Nandana Srashta' (The son of Devaki, the Creator) - This invokes the dynamic creative power of the mantra, connecting Vishnu's avatar as Krishna (Devaki's son) with his cosmic role as Creator.
Verse 80 — உத்பவ:, க்ஷோபணோ தேவ இதி பரமோமந்த்ர: । உத்பவ:, க்ஷோபணோ தேவ இதி பரமோமந்த்ர: ।
udbhavaḥ, kṣōbhaṇō dēva iti paramōmantraḥ ।
The supreme mantra is 'Udbhava, Kshobhano Deva' (The Origin, the Agitator, the Luminous One) - This paramaomantra represents the highest essence, invoking Vishnu as the source of creation and the one who stirs the primordial waters into manifestation.
Verse 81 — ஶங்கப்ருன்னந்தகீ சக்ரீதி கீலகம் । ஶங்கப்ருன்னந்தகீ சக்ரீதி கீலகம் ।
śaṅkhabhṛnnandakī chakrīti kīlakam ।
The kilaka (pin/lock) is 'Shankhabhrit Nandaki Chakri' (Bearer of the conch, wielder of Nandaka sword, holder of the discus) - The kilaka secures the mantra's power, here invoking Vishnu's iconic weapons that protect devotees.
Verse 82 — ஶார்ங்கதன்வா கதாதர இத்யஸ்த்ரம் । ஶார்ங்கதன்வா கதாதர இத்யஸ்த்ரம் ।
śārṅgadhanvā gadādhara ityastram ।
The astra (weapon mantra) is 'Sharngadhanva Gadadhara' (Wielder of the Sharnga bow, bearer of the mace) - This protective formula invokes Vishnu's remaining weapons for spiritual defense.
Verse 83 — ரதாங்கபாணி ரக்ஷோப்ய இதி நேத்ரம் । ரதாங்கபாணி ரக்ஷோப்ய இதி நேத்ரம் ।
rathāṅgapāṇi rakṣōbhya iti nētram ।
The netra (eye mantra) is 'Rathangapani Rakshobhya' (He whose hand holds the chariot wheel, the indestructible protector) - This formula is placed on the eyes for divine vision and protection.
Verse 84 — த்ரிஸாமாஸாமக: ஸாமேதி கவசம் । த்ரிஸாமாஸாமக: ஸாமேதி கவசம் ।
trisāmāsāmagaḥ sāmēti kavacham ।
The kavacha (armor mantra) is 'Trisama Samaga Sama' (The essence of the three Sama hymns, knower of Sama, the Sama Veda itself) - This protective formula invokes Vishnu as the embodiment of sacred Vedic chants.

Verse 482 — காமானவாப்னுயாத் காமீ ப்ரஜார்தீ ப்ராப்னுயாத்ப்ரஜா… காமானவாப்னுயாத் காமீ ப்ரஜார்தீ ப்ராப்னுயாத்ப்ரஜாம் ।
kāmānavāpnuyāt kāmī prajārthī prāpnuyātprajām ।
One desiring pleasures will attain them; one seeking progeny will be blessed with children.
Verse 485 — பக்திமான் ய: ஸதோத்தாய ஶுசிஸ்தத்கதமானஸ: । பக்திமான் ய: ஸதோத்தாய ஶுசிஸ்தத்கதமானஸ: ।

He becomes free from disease, radiant, endowed with strength, beauty and good qualities.
Verse 495 — ரோகார்தோ முச்யதே ரோகாத்பத்தோ முச்யேத பந்தனாத் । ரோகார்தோ முச்யதே ரோகாத்பத்தோ முச்யேத பந்தனாத் ।
rōgārtō muchyatē rōgādbaddhō muchyēta bandhanāt ।
The afflicted is freed from disease; the bound is released from bondage.
Verse 496 — பயான்முச்யேத பீதஸ்து முச்யேதாபன்ன ஆபத: ॥ பயான்முச்யேத பீதஸ்து முச்யேதாபன்ன ஆபத: ॥
bhayānmuchyēta bhītastu muchyētāpanna āpadaḥ ॥
