Verse 1 — ಅನುಗಾಲವು ಚಿಂತೆ ಜೀವಕೆ ಮನವು

ಅನುಗಾಲವು ಚಿಂತೆ ಜೀವಕೆ ಮನವು

anugālavu ciṃtè jīvakè manavu

The mindʼs worry for the soul never ceases,

Verse 2 — ಶ್ರೀರಂಗನೋಳ್ ಮೆಚ್ಚುವ ತನಕ

ಶ್ರೀರಂಗನೋಳ್ ಮೆಚ್ಚುವ ತನಕ

śrīraṃganol̤ mèccuva tanaka

until it finds its rest in Śrī Ranga.

Verse 3 — ಸತಿಯಿದ್ದರು ಚಿಂತೆ, ಸತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಚಿಂತೆ

ಸತಿಯಿದ್ದರು ಚಿಂತೆ, ಸತಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಚಿಂತೆ

satiyiddaru ciṃtè, satiyillada ciṃtè

To have a wife is worry; to have none is worry;

Verse 4 — ಮತಿಹೀನ ಸತಿಯು ಆದರು ಚಿಂತೆ

ಮತಿಹೀನ ಸತಿಯು ಆದರು ಚಿಂತೆ

matihīna satiyu ādaru ciṃtè

and a foolish wife, too, is worry.

Verse 5 — ಪೃಥ್ವಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಸತಿ ಕಡು ಚೆಲ್ವೆಯಾದರೆ

ಪೃಥ್ವಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಸತಿ ಕಡು ಚೆಲ್ವೆಯಾದರೆ

pṛthviyòl̤agè sati kaḍu cèlvèyādarè

If the wife be the fairest on earth,

Verse 6 — ಮಿತಿ ಮೊದಲಿಲ್ಲದ ಮೋಹದ ಚಿಂತೆ

miti mòdalillada mohada ciṃtè

there is the boundless worry of infatuation.

ಬಡವನಾದರು ಚಿಂತೆ, ಬಲ್ಲಿದನಾಗೆ ಚಿಂತೆ

baḍavanādaru ciṃtè, ballidanāgè ciṃtè

To be poor is worry; to be rich is worry;

Verse 8 — ಹಿಡಿ ಹೊನ್ನು ಕೈಯೊಳು ಇದ್ದರು ಚಿಂತೆ

hiḍi hònnu kaiyòl̤u iddaru ciṃtè

even a fistful of gold in hand is worry.
