A stotra is a Sanskrit 'ode, eulogy or hymn of praise' — a melodious poem addressed to a deity, from the same root (stu-, 'to praise') as stuti. Stotras span refined personal poetry and impersonal lists of divine names, and appear across Hindu, Buddhist and Jain traditions, often inside the epics and Puranas.
