About the Kirthana form
A kīrtana is a song in praise of God, set to a musical mode and a time cycle — and one of the nine limbs of bhakti, eulogising the Lord's names and deeds. Purandara Dasaru's keerthanes laid the foundation on which the Carnatic kriti was later built by the musical Trinity.
